Description
Beau Brummel is a 1924 American silent film historical drama. The film stars John Barrymore and was directed by Harry Beaumont. The film is based on Clyde Fitch's historical play which had been performed by Richard Mansfield. It depicts the life of the British Regency celebrity Beau Brummell.
This movie survives today in various edits, the original release 130 minutes and 80 minute and 71 minute versions. The short versions usually have Carmel Myers's scenes deleted.
Barrymore and Mary Astor enjoyed an intense, though probably unconsummated, affair during the making of this film. He was 41 and she was 17 and underage.
A couple years after Barrymore's death, his daughter Diana was shown a special screening of this film as she had never seen her father in any of his silent films.
