Description
Mediterranean Peregrine by Thorburn
The peregrine falcon also known as the peregrine, and historically as the duck hawk in North America, is a widespread bird of prey raptor in the family Falconidae. A large, crow-sized falcon, it has a blue-grey back, barred white underparts, and a black head. As is typical of bird-eating raptors, peregrine falcons are sexually dimorphic, with females being considerably larger than males.
Archibald Thorburn 31 May 1860 - 9 October 1935 was a Scottish artist and animal painter and bird illustrator, painting mostly in watercolor. He regularly visited Scotland to sketch birds in the wild, his favorite haunt being the Forest of Gaick near Kingussie in Invernesshire.
