Description
Cat Drawing 3 by Jean Bernard 1800
Jean Bernard Duvivier 1762 to1837 was a painter and drawer of portraits and historical and religious subjects, a book illustrator and a professor at the Normal School in Paris. After having been instructed by Hubert and Paul de Cock and Suvée, he studied in Italy for six years. His style is characterized by balanced composition, lifelike drawing, bright colors and of course his pet cats. His portraits of people, nature, and animals were drawn mostly with charcoal and colored crayons which beautifully captured the intricate details of his varied subjects. Aside from his feline favorites, the collection also includes vintage botanics, landscapes and many more.
The cat Felis catus is a small carnivorous mammal. It is the only domesticated species in the family Felidae and often referred to as the domestic cat to distinguish it from wild members of the family. The cat is either a house cat or a farm cat, which are pets, or a feral cat, which ranges freely and avoids human contact House cats are valued by humans for companionship and for their ability to hunt rodents. About 60 cat breeds are recognized by various cat registries.
